Mount Meru, rising to 4,566 metres, is Tanzania’s second-highest peak and is located within the scenic Arusha National Park. The mountain offers a rewarding 3-day trek along a single established route, making it a popular choice for acclimatization before climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Unlike Kilimanjaro, all trekkers on Mount Meru are accompanied by an armed park ranger, allowing for a unique walking safari where you may encounter giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and black-and-white colobus monkeys in their natural habitat.

Day 1:
Momella Gate (1,387m) – Miriakamba Hut (2,514m)
After breakfast, drive to Momella Gate in Arusha National Park, where you’ll complete registration before beginning your trek. Accompanied by an armed ranger, hike through open grasslands and lush rainforest, with excellent opportunities to spot giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, antelopes, and other wildlife. Pause at the scenic Maio Falls before continuing beneath the iconic Fig Tree Arch to Miriakamba Hut (2,514m) for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 2:
Miriakamba Hut (2,514m) – Saddle Hut (3,570m)
After breakfast, continue your ascent along a scenic ridge through dense forest before emerging into the open heath and moorland. Stop at Elephant Back Ridge (Mgongo wa Tembo) to enjoy spectacular views before trekking on to Saddle Hut (3,570m). After a hot lunch, relax and prepare for your midnight summit attempt with an early dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3:
Saddle Hut (3,570m) – Socialist Peak (4,565m) – Miriakamba Hut (2,514m)
Your summit push begins just after midnight, climbing under the stars to Socialist Peak (4,565m). Reach the summit at sunrise to witness breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Meru Crater, and the Ash Cone. After celebrating your achievement, descend to Saddle Hut for a short rest before continuing through the forest to Miriakamba Hut for dinner and a well-earned overnight stay.

Day 4:
Miriakamba Hut (2,514m) – Momella Gate (1,387m) – Arusha
After breakfast, enjoy your final descent through the lush forests of Arusha National Park, with another chance to spot wildlife along the trail. Upon arrival at Momella Gate, receive your trekking certificate before meeting your driver for the transfer back to Arusha, marking the end of your Mount Meru adventure.
