Lake Natron

Lake Natron is home to spectacular birdlife, especially Greater and Lesser Flamingos, which often gather here in their tens of thousands. Watching these vibrant pink birds soaring above the lake is an unforgettable experience.

The lake’s highly alkaline waters provide a safe breeding environment, protecting flamingos from many natural predators. Between September and April, Lake Natron becomes the most important breeding ground for Lesser Flamingos, with over 75% of the world’s population hatching here. Eggs are laid on mud nests in the shallow waters, and visitors may spot young gray chicks taking their first steps before gradually developing their distinctive pink feathers.

Besides flamingos, the area also attracts pelicans and numerous other bird species. In their natural habitat, these birds display lively and fascinating behaviors, making Lake Natron a paradise for bird lovers and photographers alike.
