Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), guests will be warmly welcomed by a representative from Ol Itiko Safaris. After a brief meet-and-greet, they will be transferred to their hotel in Arusha, where they can relax and recover from their journey.

Today you will explore the breathtaking Lake Natron, one of Tanzania’s most unique and remote destinations. Surrounded by dramatic volcanic landscapes, the lake is famous for its alkaline waters and as the primary breeding ground for thousands of flamingos. Lake Natron is home to spectacular birdlife, especially Greater and Lesser Flamingos, which often gather here in their tens of thousands. Watching these vibrant pink birds soaring above the lake is an unforgettable experience.

The lake’s highly alkaline waters provide a safe breeding environment, protecting flamingos from many natural predators. Between September and April, Lake Natron becomes the most important breeding ground for Lesser Flamingos, with over 75% of the world’s population hatching here. Eggs are laid on mud nests in the shallow waters, and visitors may spot young gray chicks taking their first steps before gradually developing their distinctive pink feathers.
